I Was So Scared - By Katie

One night when I was in bed, dad shut my bedroom door (which he wasn't meant to do).  It was pitch black.  Something moved; creaking noises filled the room.  Then an eerie silence filled the room.  My heart raced like a running race.  I head  a rustling sound.  It sounded like newspapers being crushed.  A shiver ran down my spine.  A sudden light appeared on the ground and I saw shadows.  Then something appeared in the light.  It was just my kitten Summer.  I felt relieved; like I'd just tasted a bowl of cheddar.  Dad came back in the room and asked, "is Summer in here?"
"Yes," I replied.  On cue Summer shot out of the room.  Eventually mum opened the fridge and gave her some soft cat food.  She wolfed it down in ten seconds flat.  I though she was going to start howling for more but instead she curled up on the sofa and fell asleep.  She was definitely happy - I think she was dreaming of mice hopping into her mouth.

Beach Education - by Oliver

On Monday room 9 and room 10 went to beach ed.  First we got ready then we walked to the beach.  We put our things in the girls and boys changing rooms, then we went to the life guards.  They introduced themselves.  After that we watched a safety movie and did other safety things.  Then we went for morning tea.  After that we went on a journey around the club.  First we went to the IRB shed.  They showed us the boat and the motor.  Secondly we went to the canoes and the kayaks.  Thirdly they went and they showed us the first aid kit.  Fourthly we had Jimmy's party lunch.  It was delicious!  Then we went down to the beach.  We got to play some games.  When the others were in the water, me and some other people made joining tunnels in  a broken-down sand castle.  After that we went back to school.  It was awesome.

Beach Education - By Bayliss

Yesterday Room 9 and Room 10 went to beach education.  Beach education is when you learn about the beach.  We went to the beach at the start of school.  First we had to call the roll then we went.  When we got there we put our stuff in the changing rooms and then we went into the life guards rooms.  We sat on their mat and they told us the ten rules about the beach.  Here are some of the rules:
1.  never swim tired or cold
2.  be sun smart
3.  learn how to row if the water pulls you in to the sea.
We then played a game.  People had to say, "slip, slop, wrap, slurp and slide" fast.  Mrs McKay said it the fastest.  She said it in three seconds (that's incredible!).  Then it was just about morning tea time.  Then we went over the ten rules.  We had to say them all over again without looking.  Peter went up and he said the ten rules.  Each time he said one of the rules the life guards wrote it down.  Then it was morning tea time.  We all went and got our morning tea and we all ate it at the park.  After that we had a play and then we went back and the life guards showed us the safety board room and the boat room.  It was awesome.  We went back and they showed us a suitcase with stuff they use to help people if they got stung by a jelly fish or if you drowned but you were still breathing.  It was something they put on your mouth to make you breathe properly.  The life guards said it was lunchtime and then we went swimming on the beach.  First we played a couple of games.  Finally we went swimming.  It was fun because we were jumping the waves and going boogie boarding.  It was amazing but we had to go.  We were all cold so we got hosed to get the sand off us and hen we got dried and dressed.  Then we left to go back to school.

Beach Ed - By Peter

On Monday room 9 and room 10 went to St Clair surf life saving club.  We went there to learn about water safety.  First we walked down there and then we learn about rips.  After that we went to the boat shed.  The life guards have 3 life boats.  Then we went to have a look at the first aid kit.  Then we went down to the beach.  Me, Kohen, Nick, Ziggy and Oliver built this tunnel thing.  It had tunnels everywhere.  Suddenly it collapsed.  We had to start all over again.  I liked beach education.

On Monday we went to the beach.  We had to walk.  I wanted to on the bus.  when we got there we put our bags in the boys room.  Then we went to learn.  I learn that quad bikes pull the boat.  We went for a swim.  The water was cold but fun.  The waves were big.  They scared me but I still had fun.  Next I played in the sand.  I made a sand castle.  I learnt about rips  so I do not get carried out to sea.  I learnt you need to swim between the flags.

I loved that day

Yesterday on the beach we talked about beach safety.  It means safety on the beach.  Next we talked about sun.  Sunsmart means wear a hat in the sun also sun-block and sunglasses.  Then it was morning tea time. For morning tea I had a ginger nut and a ginger kiss.  After that we had a play in the playground.  I played on the slide.  Next we had a little swim in the water.  It was awesome.  Next we had lunch.  It was a party lunch because it was Jimmy’s birthday.  We had chicken kebabs and we also had chicken fingers, fairy bread too and ice cream.  Last of all we had chocolate cake.  Next we had a big play.  I played with Victoria and Mackenzie.  Then we all went back inside and looked at some safety equipment for when you get hurt.  We whent back to school and wen we got there we wrote about it.  I just wish it was that day right now.  I loved that day.

Beach Education

On Monday room 9 and 10 went to the beach. We learnt about the beach with the life guards. We made really big sand castles. The girls won. Then we had a swim. The waves almost knocked me down. The sand was as shiny as glitter and there were sand hoppers in the sand. They freaked me out! I thought the sand hoppers bit but they didn’t bite. The sun was shining brightly and the waves were enormous (that was the fun part). It was lots and lots of fun. It was the best day of my life. We played like rats. I felt happy because it was fun.

A Fun Day at the Beach

Yesterday room 9 and room 10 walked to the beach to learn to keep ourselves safe and to learn about rips too so we don’t get carried into the sea.  We learnt to keep in between the flags.  We built sandcastles.  It was so cool.

Weeks 1 & 2 in Room 9

We have begun the year with a fable from Aesop called "The Cat, The Rooster and The Mouse".  We learnt that it is really important to look beyond what someone looks like and to take a closer look at what they are really like. After we had done lots of talking about the fable, we decided to do some art.  We chose to make roosters and decided to 'crow' about some of the things that people might like to know about us so they get to know us better. Mrs Wood photographed them and put them into a slide show.  We think they are pretty wonderful but would love to hear what you think too.

2011 Begins

Today in room 9 we had lots of fun getting to know more about each other.  Mrs Wood made up a game which we played called The Stone Game.  We had to layout out stepping stones and then randomly place some typed words on these.  We took turns to throw the dice and then landed on the different stones.  If we landed on one that had words on it, we had to follow the instruction.  Some of the things we had to do were:  give someone a compliment, ask someone a question, ask someone what their favourite food is, show what you could do to make someone in the class feel happy.  We found this to be a fun game and we learnt lots of new things about each other.  For example, Kohen loves chocolate while Karen is frightened of crocodiles and lions.  We discovered that we could be friendly by smiling, including someone in their game or saying something nice to someone.    Mrs Wood was very proud of how we worked together as a team by taking turns and sharing, being responsible in the way we tidied up and the way we listened so carefully to the instructions!  These photos show us playing the game.Term 1 Begins on PhotoPeach
